Advanced Technical Writing Certificate

Overview

George Mason University’s English Department has developed an advanced technical writing program specifically for the fire and emergency service industry. This six-course program addresses both foundations of technical writing and technical writing in organizations.

Offered entirely online, fire service professionals can register for weeklong courses in Writing Fundamentals, Plain Language, Oral Presentation, Fundamentals of Grammar and Editing, Principles of Proposal Writing, and Communication in Organizations through Mason’s Continuing and Professional Education department. Courses are structured for participants to attend at their own pace but must be completed within scheduled course dates.

To earn the Advanced Technical Writing Certificate and Digital Badge all six courses must be completed. 

 

+ Digital Certificate (Badge)

Advanced Technical Writing badge earners possess a wide range of skills required for writing to technical requirements in organizations. These skills include advanced knowledge about writing for a range of audiences, writing for specialized purposes, and editing for professional workplace writing. Badge earners have gained confidence, dexterity, and efficiency in their writing abilities across a wide range of environments and needs.

+ Designed For

This certificate program is designed for a variety of fire service personnel. This includes all levels of a contemporary fire department, from fire fighter through chief fire officers as well as courses focused on company officers through chief fire officers.
