Business Systems

Overview

Baker Tilly, The Public Contracting Institute, and George Mason University Continuing and Professional Education will present this business systems series addressing the requirements of the DFARS business systems rules.  This series, valuable to both DOD and other Federal agency contractors alike, will provide important guidance for any contractor seeking to improve its internal business system compliance, perform system self-assessments, and will help contractors prepare for and respond to government audits.  This series will address the six covered business systems and will feature guest speakers discussing practical insights and lessons learned from business system reviews. This course is qualified for 0.9 CEUs.

If CLE credits are needed, the request along with the jurisdiction must be received before the start of the training.

Day 1: Estimating Systems
This session will address significant topics for estimating system compliance.  Topics will include an overview of the DFARS estimating system rule, key estimating system audit and compliance issues, best practices for managing system adequacy challenges, and lessons learned from estimating system reviews.  This session will be valuable for any DOD contractor seeking to establish or maintain compliance with estimating system requirements.


Day 2: Accounting Systems
This session will address key accounting system compliance issues.  Topics will include DFARS accounting system requirements and pre-award survey requirements, DCAA guidance on significant deficiencies, DCAA hot topics, and key issues and lessons learned from accounting system reviews.  This course will be valuable for any contractor seeking to establish or maintain compliance with government contracts accounting system requirements. 


Day 3: Property Systems 
This session will discuss a number of significant topics relating to property system compliance.  Topics will include DFARS property system requirements, DCMA guidance on property system compliance, hot topics, and lessons learned from system reviews.  This course will be valuable for any contractor preparing for a CPSR or seeking to establish or maintain compliance with purchasing system requirements.  


Day 4: Purchasing Systems
This session will discuss a number of key topics relating to purchasing system compliance.  Topics will include DFARS purchasing system requirements, DCMA guidance on system compliance, purchasing system hot topics, including counterfeit parts requirements, and lessons learned from purchasing system reviews.  This course will be valuable for any contractor preparing for a CPSR or seeking to establish or maintain compliance with purchasing system requirements.  


Day 5: EVMS & MMAS
This session will discuss a number of significant topics relating to two key business systems: (1) earned value management and (2) material management and accounting.  Topics will include an overview of the DFARS system rules and a discussion of key audit and compliance criteria for both systems.  This session will include practical insights and lessons learned for each business system and will be valuable for any contractor seeking to establish or maintain compliance with relevant EVMS and MMAS requirements.


Day 6: Business System Administration & Recent Developments
Business system reviews and disputes are fast becoming a key compliance issue for government contractors.  This session is an overview and discussion of the requirements of the business systems rule, including key definitions, the systematic review process, and important lessons for contractors subject to business system audits and findings.  This session will include recent guidance and developments impacting the business systems rule and requirements for DOD and DOE contractors impacted by the rule.
